Romania Photography Workshop - Oct 2019

OVERVIEW

Explore one of the true gems and least explored countries in Europe. Steeped in thousands of years old history and culture, Romania is a destination that will take your breath away and leave you wanting to keep exploring further. From the main capital Bucharest (commonly known as little Paris), with its mix of modern glass high rise buildings and old elegant French style architecture to the quaint small farm towns, royal castles, and the imposing Carpathian Mountain range, Romania certainly has enough to satisfy the most demanding photographer. Be prepared to experience new native cultural rituals that have been preserved for generations as well as food and spices greatly influenced by the once-dominant Ottoman Empire.

Once one leaves the capital behind, most of the country runs at the same pace as it did in ancient times. Modern technology has not yet touched the rural countryside with horse-drawn carts and traditional haymaking techniques being observed from town to town. Dotted throughout unspoiled mountain ranges and valleys lie towering medieval fortresses such as Rasnov, Rupea, and Sighisoara as well as arguably the most notorious landmark – Dracula’s castle.

Traveling further north into Transylvania, we will visit the picturesque cobbled town of Brasov with its imposing famous gothic black church. Then onwards to the unique salt mine of Turda, recently named by Business Insider as the top ten “coolest underground places in the world”. Making our way back to Bucharest, we cross the mountain range via Top Gear’s chosen best driving road in the world – Transfagarasan Highway with its stunning surrounding views.
